There are about 450 horses presently stationed at Mysore, and about 370 of them are expected to participate in the next three months. With most of them being six years old and over, it has been the Club's desire to improve their stock. An incentive in the form of a credit of Rs 2000 per month to the owner's account, for every two year-old brought to the MRC for racing, has seen an encouraging increase in the number of youngsters entering the Club's premises. Seventy-five two year-olds have already arrived this year, marking a big jump over the 35 that had been registered in 2009. This augurs well for this centre, and the quality of racing is bound to improve in the next few years. Bangalore-based trainers like S Ganapathy, Michael Eshwer and Warren Singh have applied for stables at Mysore, and have expressed a desire to race some of their wards at this centre.
The Club's website www.mysoreraceclub.com has been updated. Track work, handicaps, acceptances, declarations, revised ratings and racing incidents are available at this site. All pools shall be combined with the Bangalore Turf Club tote, and some extra terminals have been put in place to facilitate the betting public.
The stake money has been pegged at the same level as last year. A sum of Rs 2,66,35,750 has been announced as the total money on offer during this season. The horses have been working regularly on the track and the fields are likely to be well filled. Keen competition can be expected over the summer months and winner picking may prove to be difficult. Patrons would be well-advised to be conservative from a betting perspective.
