The Vandrevala Foundation Indian Turf Invitation Cup weekend had a glamorous ignition at the Mahalaxmi racecourse on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. In the presence of the racing fraternity and the electronic and print media, Leading Cine Star Bipasha Basu, flanked by Mr Firdose Vandrevala Chairman and Managing Director, HIRCO and Mr. Vivek Jain Chairman, RWITC, said she was thrilled to be at the racecourse for the unveiling of the Vandrevala Logo and officially ring in the Invitation weekend. Bipasha looked gorgeous in a vibrant blue outfit.

“It’s one of the best locations in Mumbai,” remarked the dusky Star in her famous sensual voice. “I am delighted to be here. The Vandrevala Foundation has lent its support to one of the major health concerns, that of mental health, with a 24 x 7 helpline (022 – 25706000) offering professional counselling to those requiring support and guidance. This is one area that people are sceptical about and the initiative taken by the Foundation is noble indeed. I will do my bit for the cause,” she concluded. When I informed her that our equine star filly Jacqueline was on the threshold of a world record, Bipasha beamed and said that the female force is no longer to be taken lightly. “I am happy that Jacqueline has achieved so much and I will be here (racecourse) again to cheer for Jacqueline during the race on Sunday.”

The charismatic Mr Firdose Vandrevala said, “The Vandrevala Foundation, the HIRCO Group and the Invitation Cup all share a common set of values. All stand for excellence, flawless execution and a sharp focus on overcoming challenges. We are extremely pleased to have our brands associated with this historic event in Indian racing. I am sure, the Vandrevala Foundation Indian Turf Invitation weekend will be exciting and a memorable weekend for everyone,” he stated.

The RWITC, meanwhile, is gearing up to host the 48th running of the Invitation Cup. Mr. Vivek Jain, who will be the Chairman of the Turf Authorities of India, is full of enthusiasm for the approaching event. “The Vandrevala Foundation Indian Turf Invitation weekend will set a new benchmark in the illustrious history of this race. Prize money, entertainment, promotion and visibility will be at an unprecedented level. For the first ever time, the entire weekend is sponsored by one group. The RWITC is proud to stage this mega event with all the pomp and splendour it deserves. We have ensured extensive live Television coverage on the ET channel of the Times Group. The racing awards ceremony will be held on Saturday evening at the Polo ground in the racecourse and all our Club members are invited to witness the function,” Mr Jain stated.

With gala entertainment planned on both race days as well as the Awards ceremony, the weekend at the Mahalaxmi should be marked as your ‘must-do’ for the weekend. Fire & Ice, the world class ice skating performers are a big draw as is the famed Gary Lawyer and his band. Along with Bipasha Basu a surprise Bollywood presence will also enliven the hearts of those present. Racing at all other centres takes a pause and the entire racing fraternity congregates at the Mahalaxmi racecourse for the Invitation extravaganza.
