Dancing Beauty Makes Ranjeet Splendid Man
By Parjanya

Delhi, Tuesday, January 5, 2010
Even though Mysore races shared the achievement of holding races after the postponement from the last days of the previous year to the first Tuesday of 2010, yet the day was originally slated for the National capital racing. Like other northern cities, the territory had no respite from the cold wave. However, timely drizzle on Sunday had made the climate perfect for racing.

Now, it was the opportunity for the "R" letter to turn the heat in a card of seven races. A pair of Jockeys Ranjeet Singh and Rajinder succeeded in booting home treble and double respectively leaving Syed Afsar Shah and Pradeep Kumar for once each. Rajinder was able to guide two favourites - Rapid Fire and Dutch Art, while an excellent piece of work by Ranjeet in the saddle of Splendid Man and Subroos enabled the duo to notch up win at the post. Ranjeet, who has camped in Delhi after leaving Bangalore and Mysore last season, has been riding exceptionally for a particular colour (Dharmender Singh Panwar). That has paid him dividends time and again. However, he has also displayed his skill on the other mounts. Having been familiar with the nerves of Dancing Beauty, Ranjeet kept her in close attendance of Rose till the couple straightened for the home stretch. Seeing the latter drifting out, he kept the filly away from Rose (who finished second) in such a manner that latter's movement could not affect the strategy very much. Despite travelling through the stand-side, he kept her charging to bear fruits at ease in the A B Stud sponsored Fillies Trial Stakes.

The filly (Dancing Beauty), who was not allowed to run freely in the previous outing, was an answer to those who had doubted her staying capability. Her ownermate Dancing Babe made a late dash from the ninth position to displace the hot favourite and debutant Shocking Star, who had started showing off distress signal after entering the two-furlong straight course, for the third place. Dancing Babe (Classic Tale/Slice of Lime) has the pedigree to stay. Shocking Star would not let herself down so easily in future; instead she should take this task as a lesson for future.

Everyone got thrilled seeing the powerful acceleration of Ranjeet on Splendid Man and Subroos in the upper division and lower division of the General Andres Plate. After winning a class four event previously, he was in to make it double on promotion. Following the leaders closely, Ranjeet and Rajinder on Vagabond started working hard to get the better off each other inside the last furlong. In a similar way, he thwarted the supremacy of Game of Talent with Subroos in the day's concluding event. He got succeeded in getting the neck better of the Gurpreet-riddeen Game of Talent. Splendid Man and Subroos are in rousing form and have more races in their armour.

Rajinder had an armchair ride on Rapid Fire in the lower division of the French Suitor Plate. Stefanio, who ran third, should spring a surprise soon. The champion ace rider got into action on Dutch Art in the following - Young Senor Plate. The mile trip and poor field helped the duo to cheer. Ashwa Pragya, who was runner-up, could be able to taste victory.

The day's opener (Gentle Spy Plate) for the youngsters had Odds N Evens justify the top billing. Warlord, who ran on to late second, should make amends and has also the stamina to stay. Just turned eight, High Rising completed an encore in a surprising manner in the senior division of the French Suitor Plate. Interestingly, Pradeep Kumar, who started his career in Kolkata, crossed the first hurdle of completing 10 win and getting entitled to use the whip.
