Dancing Touch In Rousing Form |
Dancing Touch from Prasad Raju’s yard won the Sri. S. Ramakrishnam Raju Memorial Cup, a six-furlong race for horses in the highest category. This was Dancing Touch’s third victory in a row. Midway up the straight, Dancing Touch produced a brilliant run to shoot ahead and score a convincing win. The seven year-old Arrow of Light, who will be ending his career at Hyderabad, finished second ahead of the late finishing Greek Fire. Red Fairy was withdrawn before the race.
By the time the horses could get to the unsaddling enclosure, the public, especially from general grand stand area, started to get restless and in no time hell broke loose with missiles flying all over. The public indulged in arson, destroying club property. The Stewards immediately announced an enquiry into the running of the race and after much deliberation decided to suspend apprentice Ajay Gaikward, rider of Danzing and Ch. K. Chary, rider of Jaan Baaz with immediate effect pending further enquiry and held good the results declared by the judge. Additional Police force was requisitioned to get the unruly mob into control and racing was resumed after almost an hour’s delay. The decision of the Stewards in upholding the original results was well appreciated by the knowledgeable race goers, who could read that it was clear case of an accident although the public purse went down the drain. Jockey P.S. Chouhan was shaken up a bit and did not complete his engagements for the day while Ajay Gaikward was taken to the hospital and when last reports came in he was out of danger and should be out after the mandatory observation period. Apprentice P.Venkat added one more to the bright start of his career, by winning on Chestnut Charmer with a start to finish bid, in the Shri Narsingh Raj Memorial Cup. After finding one better in five successive races, Chestnut Charmer had got into the winning bracket in his previous outing. Although neglected in the betting due to the presence of the likes of Aphrodisiac and Scubarioo, the Chestnut ‘Charmed’ his way to the finish. Green Haven was finishing on but the winning post came to the rescue of Chestnut Charmer. Scubario made a late bid to beat Aphrodisiac for the third place. The race in memory of Apprentice jockey A. Pramod Goud was divided into two. The lower division was won by Faisal Hassan-trained Rising Rays. Raising Rays put in a gutsy performance to get the better of Sahebzadi and Tillcowscomehome, to clear a perfect gamble by the connections. Amantillado was permitted to be withdrawn. Hunting Bay sprang a surprise in the higher division beating Dhruthiman. The favourite True Fashion could only finish third ahead of Dancing Harbour. Young Cavalier suffered a massive cardiac arrest on top of the straight and collapsed. The jockey, A. Ramana, who landed nastily on his face, was shifted to the hospital in an unconscious condition. Cabochon sat behind the leader Mystic Impact till the final bend and surged ahead to score an easy win in the lower division of the Republic Plate. Young Star rallied on to finish second ahead of the early leader, Mystic Impact. Kohinoor Star was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. The money back favourite, Youre an Aeton, won the opening race of the day, the Mother’s Boy Plate but not before a scare by Jabel Queen. Imran Khan had Fleeting Wish start to finish in the concluding race to give trainer Prasad Raju a double for the day. |
