Ave Maria Lifts the Telengana Cup |
Followers of form had a good day at the races, as seven fancied horses obliged in the eight-race card. Leo D’Silva registered a double after a long time. Rosemead came out of her maiden ranks after placing in all her earlier four starts. Sterling Cruise brought the field into view on the straight, in the lower division of the Perceived Value Plate, but could not match strides when Rosemead, who was racing on the heels of the leader, came alongside. Cascading Glory started to improve towards the closing stages but found the winner better by a length. Chesapeake, who has been performing well consistently, picked up his second win of the season with jockey Harish guiding him through. Phar Lap held forte till the distance post, wherefrom Chesapeake took charge and scored an easy win. Pythagoras, Colourful and Royal Tune got busy towards the end to fill the frame in a close finish. Jockey John rode two winners, one for trainer Laxman Singh and the other for Deshmukh. Laxman Singh’s Ruffiano was racing in about sixth position, rounding the final bend, as Pretty Fit did the front running, in the lower division of the Jockey Kavan Kariappa Memorial Cup. Midway up the straight, Anemometer went ahead but could not pursue when Ruffiano rallied alongside with a good gallop. Citi Dancer snatched the second place from Aneometer with a late run. John had earlier ridden Deshmukh’s Strategic Command to an impressive victory in the Ballerina Star Plate. Taking charge at around 300 metres from home, Strategic Command cruised to an easy win. Cobochon finished a long way second. Deshmukh scored another impressive victory through Miss Everywhere. Apprentice P. Venkat rode the 10-to-8 ‘on-money’ favourite confidently from start to finish. Leading Light finished second ahead of Glorious Bay. Baywatch Babe set the pace for stable mate Zambo Anga in the higher division of the Jockey Kavan Kariappa Memorial Cup. Approaching the last 300 metres, Imran Chisty just niggled Zambo Anga and Vatsalya’s ward responded gamely to run away from the field. Miracle moved from way behind when the other runners were struggling and finished second. Red Connect stretched out well and scored an emphatic win in the concluding race of the day. The Himalayas chased the winner to occupy the runner up berth. Vijay Monarch finished a tame third. |
