Maximise Lifts M.L.N. Reddy Memorial Cup |
Deshmukh-trained Maximise won the M.L.N. Reddy Memorial Cup, the feature event of Monday’s races at Hyderabad in a three-way finish. Finding the pace not to his liking, jockey P.S. Chouhan decided to take Maximise to the front and had a two-length advantage on the straight. Clever Ploy was beginning to get closer and El Paso was the fastest finishing towards the end. Maximise just about managed to hold on at the finish from El Paso and Clever Ploy.
Faisal had led in Fire Bender earlier in the lower division of the Chirala Cup. Ruby Crown was clear by almost three lengths on the straight but ran out of steam and Fire Bender was quick to take charge and win. Laxman Singh’s Kohinoor Wish turned out to be a smashing winner in the Smt. Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup, run over a metric mile. The final verdict showed a little over a length over Aloisia but the manner in which Kohinoor Wish registered his win was astounding, as the rider Stephen Carson had more on hand. With this victory being the second one in as many starts in his career, one will get to see Kohinoor Wish more in future. Cicilia won the lower division of the Elusive Pimpernel Plate, the opening race of the day. Having finished second to Set Me Free in her previous essay, the win did not come as a surprise. Indian Brave Heart led from the start and the five year old gelding maintained a straight course on the straight and looks to have come out of the bad habit of going wide. With improvement in his habit a win should be round the corner. Sparkling Flame missed the jump but was seen finishing on to take the third spot. Welcome Baby produced a good gallop in the final 100 metres to pass the leader Ted Lapidus and win by a length, in the higher division of the Chirala Cup. Achiever and Royal Bay finished behind Ted Lapidus in a close finish. Arabian Dancer came up with good burst of speed in the final furlong to beat Miss Everywhere close to the winning post in the Mount Everest Plate. Reality Show got the better of Grand Rapids and Scamper in a three way finish in the lower division of the Sir Bruce Plate. Scamper, who had set out in front right from the start, was challenged strongly by Grand Rapids and Scamper. The strong riding, of Imran Khan, who had replaced Samuel Fargeat enabled Reality Show to put his head in front. Grand Rapids took the runner up berth ahead of Scamper. Imran Khan was again in limelight in the concluding race, the higher division of the Elusive Pimpernel Plate, booting home the well backed Amber Rose to victory over Siddipet Express. This win gave Imran his third success of the day. |
