David Quartet Puts Him in Lead |
The goldie-brown colours of Dr MAM Ramaswamy swept aside all opposition on Friday as his trainer Daniel David recorded a superb quartet to take over the lead in the trainers’ championship from Vijay Singh. During the past couple of days, the local powerhouse drew a blank and handed over the baton to the stable of the south Indian racing baron.
David’s first winner was the even money favourite Whispering Wind who took over the lead from the aged Cromwell early in the race for the lower division of the Fizz Handicap, and then won as she liked from a far off Blazing Beauty. Asiatic Boy picked up the Rebel Warrior with a little more effort as the persistent Flying Jaguar refused to give up the chase. Imran’s win on Special Gesture in the upper division of the Soultline Handicap was indeed a hard fought one. Agnation was gathered up well by Islam before the final run down the straight but the eventual winner got him near the post. With a mandatory penalty of 5 kg after his win on Thursday, Brave Move carried his heavy impost to a creditable third. David and Imran called it a day after taking Communication past the winning post in the lower division of the same race. The disappointment was Auckley who failed miserably despite being placed well on the scale. The afternoon commenced in the most amazing manner for Patrick Quinn. His six year-old Highland Prince came out of a major setback to bag the upper division of the Fizz Handicap in his maiden start. One is not sure whether such a case is unprecedented but it is definitely rare. This full brother to Rhapsidion Snow (Placerville-Si Senorita) went start to finish over the five and half-furlong sprint. Kudos to the lad for getting his charge right and quietly fancying it too. C. Alford’s best ride during the day was Oceanaire but the filly had no answer to the gallop raised in the straight by top-weight Kayadhu. There was really nothing much else in this two-horse race as none of the others were in with a chance. Richard Alford-trained Harey Putter came good in the hands of B Srinivas Rao to make it two in two days for the veteran trainer. The winner was available at 4/1. |
