Debutant Perpetual Glory Shows Clean Pair of Heels

Magan Singh-trained Perpetual Glory has turned out to be a late bloomer. The three year-old galloper rose to the occasion in the Eqaul Chance Plate at the Delhi races on Monday. The absence of top-notched horses from yard of the champion saddler Alim Khan, has helped Magan in leading-in three horses in a short span of a week. Jockey Rajinder broke his silence with a double.

Bred as purple filly, Perpetual Glory had been tracking well but her fitness problems were keeping her from the frame. However, on Monday, running with bandaged hind-legs, she displayed a sparkling performance making every post a winning one. Going by the pedigree, the daughter of China Visit and Perpetual can do even well over the longer trip. Indian Bride had nothing left to offer than to stick at the runner-up slot ahead of the late charged Genious Boy. Ashwa Prisha failed to show her speed. Imagine and Canadian Gold made a late surge together for the fifth and sixth place respectively. The duo (particularly the latter) should be in different shape next season.

Sporting a cross nose band brought in a lot of improvement in the strides of Power House. The bay colt, who fared badly in the previous outing, had brought some anxiety on the faces of followers seeing its drifting odds. However, when Rajinder started showing his prowess in the straight they heaved a sigh of relief. Even though Sam Aldo gave his last ounce of energy to challenge the supremacy of Power House, he failed short by a neck in the lower division of the Photofinish Plate. Classic Spirit took the advantage of mediocre set in the upper division of the event and tasted victory gracefully.

Real Scotch, who was performing consistently, finally stepped into the winner's boot in the B Khanna Memorial cup. The mare, who is known for her lethargic gallop, was forced to run behind Free Glider till the final furlong. The Dukes was unnecessarily kept off the pace in rear but managed to occupy the runner-up slot with a late surge. Real strong was handled poorly.

Despite running after a gap of over three months, Ouef Toba showed a clean pair of heels in the start-to-finish bid for Close Finish Plate. The full brother of top-class filly Gin and Tonic has the credentials to repeat. S Nawab's Golden Gun fired with double barrel to earn his first victory in the season in the day's concluding event Handicapper Plate. He made the favourite Ashwa Paddma his victim.
