Crocodile Hunter Canters Home |
M. Sathyanaarayana trained Crocodile Hunter literarily cantered home in the Asaf Jah VII Memorial Cup, a race for horses in the highest category. Imran Khan guided Crocodile Hunter into the lead as the heads turned for home and extended the margin with a fluent gallop. Doing My Best, who was loitering in the rear for most part of the race, rallied around the field to finish second.
Modest Bride was knocking at the doors, having placed twice in as many races this monsoon. She won the Royal Tern Plate. Passing the relentless Casablanca near the distance marker, Modest Bride quickened well to win easily. Green Mist was found to be running erratic on the straight, disturbing the running of Apple Valley and Dream Dancer in the process and still managed to finish second, a head, in front of Casablanca. Star World, who had a couple of listless performances in the higher set, claimed the higher division of the Karimnagar Plate, the concluding race of the day, thus giving its trainer K. Satheesh a double. The favourite, Ocean of Pearls, looked to be clearly beaten on the straight. Try Me Today was permitted to be withdrawn. Laxman Singh’s Vijay’s Famme, who had shared the turf with the likes of Messalina in the Fillies Trial Stakes, was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the lower division of the Dynamic Dancer Cup. Being tipped as the day’s best betting proposition by all and sundry, she lived up to that expectation with an easy victory. Zabbo Anga was in a futile chase finishing second. Second in demand, Preston Bailey, did not jump out of the gates and never took part in the race.
Leo D.Silva scored on Clever Ploy and Above the Line to stay ahead in the trainer’s tally. Harish rode both the winners. Clever Ploy went on a start to mission and never looked back in the opener. Above the Line completed a hat-trick this season and the way she has been winning, she may well pick up another race before the season ends. Ruby Rouge and Artistic Emperor looked to be on a stroll in the park, coming in when the party was over to take the second and third places respectively. Garrison Chief jumped out smartly from outermost draw to settle in third position till the final bend. Tommy Hillfiger made all the running in front and as she began to slow down, Garrison Chief surged ahead and won. Recast finished second a short head in front of Zulima who came from an impossible position. Top Shape was withdrawn before the race. Zycon found herself in front on the straight and managed to hold on from the fast finishing India Gate, Music Valley and Mighty Prince. R. Rupesh rode the winner in place of Suraj Narredu. Jockeys Suraj Nareddu, Nitin Singh, Shaik Sharookh and G.B. Khade were medically unfit to ride for the day and subsequent changes were made.
