Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, Chairman of the Turf Authorities of India, presided over the function along with Mr. R. Surender Reddy, Chairman, Hyderabad Race Club, Mr. Cyrus Madan, Chairman, Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Mr. Vivek G Ubaykar, Chairman, Bangalore Turf Club and Mr. R. Ramakrishnan representing Madras Race Club.
The following awards were presented.
1. CHAMPION OWNER AWARD: Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy.
2. CHAMPION TRAINER AWARD: Mr. Robert Foley.
3. CHAMPION JOCKEY AWARD: Mr. B. Prakash.
4. CHAMPION STUD FARM AWARD: Poonawalla Group of Stud Farms.
5. HORSE OF THE YEAR AWARD: Sweeping Success, owned by Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy
Addressing the gathering Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla appreciated the initiative taken by the Breeders Association of India in running the 2009 edition of the Invitational Races. He also lauded the efforts of Mr. R. Surender Reddy and his team at the Hyderabad Race Club in making the Invitational Races on Sunday, a great success.
Mr. R. Surender Reddy, Chairman, Hyderabad Race Club presented mementos to all the Breeders who had contributed to the fund, to run the Invitational Races. The sponsors of the four Million Races that were held on the day were also felicitated.
PERMANENT INVITEE: Mr. Shivlal R Daga was inducted as a permanent invitee to the Turf Authorities of India. ‘Raja’, as he is popularly known to his close friends, this soft spoken and upright gentleman belongs to a family who has contributed immensely to horse racing in India. Mr. Shivlal R Daga is the son of Seth Ramnath Daga and nephew of Seth Badrinath Daga, the family which owned Sweet Memories during the mid-seventies.
