Chief Completes Mission |
Anupam Sharma trained Mission Chief trounced his six rivals in the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy, a mile race for horses in the highest category. Tracking Bernardo till the 1,200 metres marker, Mission Chief shot ahead and accelerated well on the straight to score an upset victory. Bernardo looked to be under pressure right from 600 metres, struggling to match strides and finished five lengths behind the winner.
Jockey R. Rupesh finished the day with a double, to resume the lead in the jockeys tally. Rupesh was quick to take the initiative on Arya in the opening race and won drawing away from Green Mist. Rupesh rode Pythagoras to a scintillating victory in the Scintillating Plate. The first six runners were covered within two lengths at the finish. Inside the last 100 metres, Classic Ruby, Metaforce, Paymaster, Leading Light, Democracy and Pythagoras got in a line and it was anybody’s race at that stage. Leading Light got locked up badly along the rails and fell back to finish fourth. It was Pythagoras who got a clear run, widest of all, flying in to beat Metaforce by a neck. Paymaster took the third spot. Irish Intellect justified the favouritism in the higher division of the Fragrance Plate. In fact, he was the only favourite to oblige, in a card of seven races. Pretty Fit, fresh from a win, led the field till the last 150 metres and surrendered when challenged by Irish Intellect. Regents Park ran on to finish second ahead of Pretty Fit. Narwhal, who has won a race this season and finishing gamely in most of her runs, put her best foot forward and raced away in the lower division. Spectacular Hero finished second after leading till beaten and Classic One who was backed down as unbeatable, finished a tame third. Try Me Today was neglected in the betting, even after finishing a close second on Saturday, although missing the jump. Making no mistake this time, Try Me Today took a level jump, positioned himself well and sped past the field in the last 100metres when Turning Point was looking to wrap up the race. The favourite Fleeting Wish finished third. |
