Trainer M Sathyanarayana, Mr. Chitturi Krishna Kannaiah and Mr. G Raghunandan Chary leading Rainbow Fog (S Shobhan Babu up), winner of The P Veereshwar Rao Memorial Cup

M. Sathyanarayana’s Rainbow Fog produced a scintillating run to beat her rivals in the P. Veereshwar Rao Memorial Cup, the main event of the eight-race card, on Monday. Rainbow Fog took a good jump and let Zycon go to the front, near the 1,000 metres. Once on the straight, Zycon began to feel the pressure and was no match for Rainbow Fog, when she surged ahead with a fluent run.

Prasad Raju’s Party Doll lifted the higher division of the Race Club Cup in a convincing manner. Moving in from a fourth position, entering the straight, Gnaneshwar had to just niggle the ‘Doll’ and she responded well to trounce the field. Sparkling Flame who was in second till the last 50 metres, was pushed back to fifth by Armada, Royal Degree and Divine Ganges, all three of them rallying in late on the scene.

Trainer Narayan Rao had a lucrative double. The two year-old from his stables, Queen of Court (Ontario – Secret Path) showed a clean pair of heels, outclassing the field, in the Hidden Bloom Olate. Jockey Vivek took Queen Of Court start to finish and Airborne Magic was no match for the filly and settled to be runner-up. The favourite ‘Look At Me Go’ was pathetic, finishing last.

Rao picked up the last race of the day on Classic One, to complete a double. Classic One, who has been running very consistently, shot through in the last furlong, to win comfortably from Regents Park and John Galt.

Trainer L V R deshmukh leading Jay Jay (Shaikh Sharook up), winner of The Elusive Hero Plate

After finishing second five times, from as many outings during the Monsoon season, Pavarotti, could finally get to see the winning post. Sugar Baby brought the field into view and had a clear two-length advantage over Sparkling Sapphire with Pavarotti seen in sixth position. Rupesh guided Pavarotti along the rails to quickly move into second and when he was about to sneak through the rails, Sugar Baby closed the gap and Rupesh sensibly pulled his mount out and Pavarotti produced a good turn of foot, to come out of his maiden ranks. Sugar Baby stayed on in second while Kohinoor Aditi and Forest Flame filled the frame.

Jay Jay surprised everyone while winning the Elusive Hero Plate. With no recent form to go by, Jay Jay was in front from the start and found himself five lengths clear of the field, midway up the straight. Try Me Today began to warm up late and by the time he started to raise a gallop Jay Jay had crossed the winning post. Top Shape reared up in the gates as the field was dispatched and refused to jump out. Execute collapsed near the 700 metres.

The fancied Exclusive Monarch from Shehzad Abbas’s yard almost made it start-to-finish in the Golconda Plate, run over nine furlongs. Vijayam, in chase throughout, was beaten to third by Monduro, close to the winning post.

Good Speed started the day, making every post a winning one. Fusion Music began to gallop strongly in the last 50 metres to push Monochrome to the third spot and finish a close second.
