Oasis Star Wins Dr. S C Jain Sprinters’ Championship

Oasis Star (Senure – Gumbaru Etsu) produced an exceptionally dazzling gallop particularly in the final furlong of the Dr S C Jain Sprinters’ Championship to confirm her reputation as the undisputed Champion Sprinter. I hesitate to call her a sprinter because I have witnessed her winning the Super Mile at Hyderabad in record timing. Perhaps the apt words to describe her talent are “extremely versatile”. What we saw  at Mahalaxmi on Sunday was not raw speed. It was a lethal, clinical, subtle yet menacing gallop seen rarely on a racetrack. Oasis Star is the best sprinter in the business and is at her peak at the moment.

What she displayed on the track was shocking to say the least. Her victory was a foregone conclusion and I had even predicted in my column yesterday that she just might create a new record, which she did. Even that did not come as a surprise! What was most astonishing was the fact the Oasis Star did not even need to give out her best. She was ambling initially and surrounded by a bunch of horses. The hearts of those who had put money on her at the miserly odds (45/100) must have started to pound. When the impressive last start winner Rhapsidion Snow darted ahead in the straight, their hearts would have started thumping vigorously too. However, once the seemingly unperturbed jockey Srinath got her into view, Oasis Star laid all apprehensions to rest with such a fluent burst of speed that made even Rhapsidion Snow look ordinary.

This manner of victory was supercilious to say the least. Not once did Srinath look concerned – neither when facing a wall of horses in front, nor when Rhapsidion Snow stole a march in the straight. Not even when Oasis Star was not getting a clear passage. Srinath knew too well that it was a matter of time and he would get past just about any horse on that day. He did not even feel the need to use the whip and he was pushing as though on a morning canter. To his mind, the mission was accomplished long before and going past the winning post was merely a formality.

No faulting Rhapsidion Snow though! She was simply trounced by a much superior mare and it is to her credit that she ran to less than two lengths of Oasis Star. Pepe Junior ran a good race too ending up earning place money. He too came in from a long way back.

Mrs. Meeta Jain did the honors at the presentation podium and Dr. S C Jain, the longest serving Chairman of the Club and now a committee member was present with son Vivek Jain who gave away the memento to the Breeders represented by Siddhant Mistry, Manjri Stud Farm. Ms. Shivantika Jain gave away the salver to jockey Y S Srinath while Mr. Saatvik Jain felicitated Trainer C D Katrak. The Jains also gave away the prize of a luxury weekend Spa escape at the prestigious Four Seasons Resorts to the winner of the contest of skill for the race.

Oasis Star is now bound for California where she will spend time in the quarantine before her overseas assignments are drawn. It is matter of great pride for the Indian racing fraternity that they have now a truly champion sprinter who can compete with the best in the business across the globe. Indiarace congratulates the connections of Oasis Star and extends best wishes and all the very best in their endeavour confident that Oasis Star will return victories.
