Professionals Want Scheduled Start

The Kolkata monsoon season may witness a staggered start in July as the number of horses fit enough to race may not be sufficient to kick-off the rainy season in style on July 10 - the scheduled start.

The number of horses doing morning trackwork is considerably less than what one would expect prior to the beginning of a season. The experienced track touts are of the opinion that while the leading stables have quite a few runners who are racing fit, the smaller yards may find it difficult to make up the numbers.

Chairman of Stewards, Cyrus Madan, said that the management can only take a call after discussing the matter with the concerned trainers once entries are published on Saturday. It seems, most of the trainers are in favour of a scheduled start.

Looking on the more positive side of things, it would be fair to say that the track has received quite a bit of rainfall over the past few days and should be ready by end of next week.

Regular Stand members will be grossly inconvenienced over the next few months as the members stand is being overhauled and reserved boxes are in short supply.
