Sudarshan Chakram made Little Master victim of its speed in the Global Stud Farm Cup at the races here on Thursday. The fifth extra day once again proved to be graveyard for the favourites as Dazzling Flame was the lone horse to live up to expectations in the card of six. Apprentice jockey Riazuddin and trainer Sangeet Charan were the successful professionals to share a brace each. However, Ravindera Pal Chauhan, who has now become a well-known figure at the Delhi circuit, created a wave not only by sponsoring the day but also remembering the great Indian warriors. The races were framed on the name of legendary Maharana Pratap (Suryavanshi Rajput from Mewar who gave new dimension to the Rajasthan during the era of Mughal emperor Akbar), Prithviraj Chauhan (the king of Chauhamana dynasty and one who killed Sultan Ghauri with an arrow with burnt eye), Rao Tularam (one of the important leaders of the 1857 revolt who born in Rewari; interestingly Ravindra also hails from the same district) and India's first field marshal the Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw (Sam Bahadur). True to the reputation, the occasion was graced by the familiar face of the Indian politics and sports - Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (ex-vice president of India) and Rajvardhan Singh Rathore (who fetched country's first individual silver medal in shooting in 2004 Olympics in Athens (Italy). Ravindera also received applaud for donating the club an Ultra-sound machine for the veterinary purpose. In the field of 12 horses, Paramount and Little master broke out first but before the duo go for a clear lead, the bay mare Sudarshan Chakram put a break across them to assume control. Little Master did try hard to apply pressure but all went in vain. He finished at the runner-up berth. The favourite Oriental Speed, who had received a check during the closing stages in the very previous outing, had nothing to offer but to run third. Though the distance was too short for his strides but it is also to note that he had also scored over five furlongs during the last season. This run should be kept aside. Sudarshan Chakram should complete an encore. The day's proceeding began with Best of Luck wishing the turf accountants have a nice day and it proved true as Black Chetak, Toms River, Sudarshan Chakram and Strokeofbrilliance tasted victory in their respective events. The three-year-old Best of Luck from the yard of Zulfiqar Khan was off the pace till the race took a serious turn. But once he got into sense, the public fancied Ashwa Shourya had no answer to his strides as he reeled under pressure throughout. However, Ouef Toba, a debutant looked all set to wrap up the issue in a start-to-finish bid with a huge lead but drifting out to the straight course spoiled his chances finishing fourth further behind Fly Again, who showed a remarkable improvement from behind. Oeuf Toba, bnrother to Gin And Tonic has the potential to reach the level of his progeny. Dazzling Flame, who had made the race goers scapegoat twice after the restart of the season, made merry of the rest of four, that too making every post a winning one over eight furlongs. Black chetak, who is known for his speed, utilised the handicap advantage and registered a stunning victory by keeping the late challenge of Cataluniya at bay with a narrow margin Prithviraj chauhan cup. Sun Dancer was handled injudiciously. Riazuddin, who guided Black Chetak, went on to earn his double with a magnificent drive on Toms River in the senior division of the Maharana Pratap Cup. His mount took a quick jump but at the same speed he had to fell back at the rear of the bunch till the final furlong. Phi, who hardly led for a few yards after snatching the lead from My Wild Love (favourite), Toms River came with a flourish to stun the former just at the wire. Strokeofbrilliance, who was supported by the connections, signed off the day after going through two objections lodged by the second placed - Polish Beauty and Zip (third). If Zip had not met the early blow, the filly would have won easily. The run of Polish Beauty is best ignored. Gold Giver, who showed the way before finishing close fourth, should soon come into a striking position. Five Star bears watching. |
