Fate of Hyderabad Race Club Trophy was hanging in balance between handicap and Derby performance. All were confused. Eventually, handicap prevailed as Gin And Tonic scripted a fine victory on Tuesday. The day also saw four horses leading the front successfully including Gin And Tonic. Magan Singh trainee Gin And Tonic, who had made many victim of her speed, was taking on Derby runner-up Stunning Rose after receiving an itching narrow defeat in the North India 1000 Guineas. The former had an advantage of scale whereas the latter was in receipt of weight considering their last meeting. Gin And Tonic did the same act which had made Stunning Rose sweat out in the first classic of the season. She broke out quickly and was even allowed to breathe freely at the top of the homestretch. As soon as She's Sexy, Cataluniya and Stunning Rose tried to come closer, she suddenly sped up the pace (many wins have come in the similar fashion) and established an unassailable lead, which became Herculean task for Stunning Rose. By this way she took a sweet revenge on the latter. The marvellous performance would definitely help the Hammerstein and Celine Dion's daughter to achieve success over the mile sooner or later. Stunning Rose's defeat was not on the card prior to the races particularly seeing the outstanding form which entitled her to complete a classic double and finishing a noteworthy second to Tomsk in the north India Derby. Many were of the opinion that the change of shoe from "aluminium" to "steel" made all the difference. Somehow, it may be correct but it is also noted that she had also scored with "steel shoe" in class three. No doubt, she improved leaps and bound with aluminium. Interestingly, one should definitely keep in record that two horses who ran behind Tomsk in the jewel in the crown event have not been able to live up to expectations - The Rock won only after receiving a severe setback at the hands of Quality Assurance. In fact, Senegal (fourth in the Derby) was the only exception, who set a new course record last week. Outstanding succeeded in coming out of maiden status in the Kr Rajendra Singh Memorial Cup. Ashwa Shourya tried hard to foil start-to-finish-bid of the daughter of Duja and Queen's Logic but head came between them. Ashwa Shourya, who is the full brother of Rapid Fire, who recorded a facile victory a day before, should make amends. Celestial Cat, a debutant and who ran third, badly needed this run. Beyond Compare, who is the son of Ansbach and Classic Image, has a bright future. Asdcot Hunter, who came from hind group, ran on to be late fifth. His strides suit longer trip. Keep an eye on Aasma. Gamati, who scored in the lower division of the Presence of Mind Plate, actually set the trend for the horses to bring laurel in a wire-to-wire attempt. Shaitan, whose stamina was not exploited while finishing on second, is knocking at the door. Vieille followed the suit of Gamati while notching up a narrow win in the 1,600 m's Jerwah Plate. Sirtica did try to do brave act by collaring the eventual winner but her habitual practice of shifting the course came between her and Vieille. The run of Arcelor should be kept aside. Poor riding on Shy Beauty paved the way for Daring Love to emerge victorious in the Road To Glory Plate. The winner was ridden by Devraj Gnaneshwar, who has slowly been becoming the familiar face of National capital racing, whereas the loser had the guidance of apprentice jockey Arun Kumar. Doon Boy picked up the momentum from where he left 22 hours ago. He stunned under apprentice Jai Prakash over five furlongs. The way he has been performing, he should continue the form. |
