IGCC Summer Fest to Unfold at Mahalaxmi

The annual feature of the Mumbai racing season is the IGCC Christmas Fest. However, despite the delay in the start of this season, it is truly a magnanimous gesture by the representatives of the IGCC to go ahead with the festive chain of events this weekend. Now christened the IGCC Summer Fest, the list of highly entertaining and a strong flavour of Germany will unfold at the Mahalaxmi racecourse starting at 2 pm on Saturday and 100 am on Sunday. The two days will offer a variety of events beside top-notch races for all Mumbaikars.

While the racetrack will see the usual thrilling action of pounding hooves, the members’ lawns will offer a host of activities and entertainment. Children are sure to have a blast as they will have their hands full what with several interesting activities open to choose from on both days.

At a special press conference held at the Gallops, the media was briefed on the elaborate arrangements that were organized for the weekend.

Mr Bernard Steinrucke on behalf of the IGCC stated that the Carnival has all the ingredients of the popular Christmas Fest and would be an ideal weekend out for the entire families. This was a fine attempt at bringing Germany and India closer, he added. On behalf of the RWITC, Mr Vivek Jain stated that the Christmas Fest was being run as a Summer Fest in view of the delay to the season, but expressed gratitude to IGCC for continuing their sponsorship even though the Weekend was shifted to April. He added the Christmas Fest would be re instated later this year during the next Mumbai season.

Deepak Biswas on behalf of Lufthansa, a co-sponsor, stated in addition to the Lufthansa Cup there will be free business and economy class tickets on Lufthansa to Germany and back, which will be offered both at the Fest and the Race Day.

Peter Deubet, who is the key person behind the IGCC Fest, highlighted the features of the Carnival which would include with a range of goods, gastronomic delights, German wine and beer, children's play areas, workshops, live performances by Wilburn and Gary Lawyer, magic shows etc - an event to be enjoyed by everyone of all ages.

Mr Byram Jeejebhoy announced the Byramjee Jeejebhoy Eclipse Stakes of India (Gr 2) will be Sunday's feature with a purse of 15 lakhs. Mr Jeejebhoy added the Byramjee Jeejebhoy Home for Destitute Children will be honoured with their children performing a song and dance number in the paddock. Boxes will be distributed for donations for this charitable institution. A few prizes will be announced for the contest of skill for The Eclipse.

Associate sponsors for the Fest and Race Days are German Trade and Invest, HDFC Ergo, Lufthansa, Panalpina, Mercedes Benz, Bayer, The Four Seasons and others.

The weekend then, surely has something for everyone and should go down well with the masses. Wanna bet?
