The action filled Deccan Bookmakers Colts Trial Stakes was won by Succeeding Star. Darius Byramji who is the trainer of Succeeding Star had won this event only once earlier, in the year 1994 on Spartacus. Darius who was not present at Hyderabad was deputised by his mentor and father Rashid Byramji. Jockey Suraj Narredu who rode a well judged race had partnered Succeeding Star in all his runs so far. Having won his previous two starts at Bangalore this win was a hat trick for Succeeding Star.
Romantic Impact who set the pace surrendered the lead when Sugar Ray, Reconnect, Succeeding Star and Star Presentation swooped on him at 200meters. Succeeding Star prevailed at the finish by three quarters of a length from Reconnect, Sugar Ray and Star Presentation who finished in that order in a close finish. Reconnect required better assistance and Star Presentation who was getting better towards the finish should relish a longer trip.
The opening race, The Mysore Race Club Cup was in the safe keeping of the top weighted Khaleel's Pride. Having won on the opening day of the season Christopher kept Khaleel's Pride a handy third till 600 meters from where he improved to take charge and won with authority. Flying Rudolf finished second as Arrow Of Light held on for the third place from Yes Es Yes Ess.
Spectacular Falcon won The A. Krishnaswami Memorial Cup run over 1800 meters from Strategic Partner. A head separated the two and the credit for this should go to Jockey B. Prakash who rode a brilliant race just using his hands and heals. Spectacular Falcon went start to finish in this 1800 meter trip and Strategic Partner who attracted all the attention in the betting winding up at 18 to 10 against was breathing fire on the 'Falcons' neck throughout. The final 200 meters generated
a lot of excitement as the two fought out.
The Upper Division of The Raja Saheb of Itkyal Memorial Cup was won by Netto trained Splendid Scot. Having done nothing in his previous outing Spledid Scot was quietly fancied by his connections as the odds indicated. Steady at 9 to 2 against Splendid Scot used the lead on the straight to his advantage winning by three parts of a length from Easy Touch who was always in futile chase. Dancing Touch ended up third and Mizzna fourth.
Ruby Rouge, Beat Hallow and Holly Go Lightly went out as almost joint favourites in the lower division. Holly Go Lightly repeated her previous performance winning in similar fashion. Taken to the front from the start she decimated the field. Beat Hallow and Ruby Rouge finished in that order behind the winner.
Trainer Laxman Singh used the services of Jockey T.S. Jodha on his ward Vijay Marg in The Tyagaraja Plate and that paid dividends. Going into the race as the favourite Vijay Marg was battling the issue with 'Concur With Honour' on the straight and was in fact finding it difficult to go past. The Western India based T.S. Jodha changed his whip to the right and Vijay Marg responded instantly to win by a length. Cannon Treasure who was racing in the rear for most part of the race came with a late burst to pip Star World for the third place.
The New Market Plate was claimed by Alukkhas, who was rightly posted as the favourite. Alukkhas had the best credentials having finished second in her two outings this season. Getting straight down to business in this 1100 meters sprint Alukkhas was never perturbed by the remaining thirteen in the race. Al Malawi went wide on the straight and lost all his chances of finishing second, ending up
seventh. Baywatch Babe finished second for the third consecutive time this season and Deccan Passion took the third spot.
Adamant Approach who has been running game races this monsoon, held on by a neck from Lady Patricia to win The Paradis Plate. The way Lady Patricia galloped and covered ground in the last 100 meters it looked like she would collar Adamant Approach in front of the grand stand, but was ultimately short by a neck. Hurricane Bay was badly positioned throughout the race, covered lot of ground to finish third. A more prudent handling of Hurricane Bay may have seen a different result.
Trainer Laxman Singh and Jockey D. Singh were the only professionals to score a double each.
