The Founders of Hyderabad Race Club were remembered in a unique way on Sunday. All the races framed for the day were in memory of the founders, Nawab Sultan Ali Khan, Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur, The Jatprole Family, S.N Reddy, Raja Saheb of Challapalli and P.V.G.Raju.

Leo D'Silva and Gnaneshwar were the only professionals to score a brace each on a day when five favourites and a well supported second favourite obliged in a card of seven races run at Hyderabad. A card of eight races were published with the seven of them run at Hyderabad and one race ( The Panchshil Million ) run at Pune under R.W.I.T.C. rules of racing. Two course records were also rewritten.

Bold Blast

The Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Trophy was a handicap for horses, 3 year olds and upward in the highest category. The second in demand Bold Blast romped home an easy winner setting a new course record timing of 1 minute 53.28 seconds erasing the earlier record of Maximise set a year ago over the 1800 meter trip. As the field straightened up for the final run jockey Sequeira asked for an effort and Bold Blast accelerated tremendously to extend the margin of victory to eight lengths. The favourite Blast In Class managed to finish second ahead of Realtor and Shakin Stevens.

Come Together from trainer Satheesh's stable won The Jatprole Cup stopping the clock at 1 minute 06.78 seconds over this sprint distance of 1100 meters, which is a new course record. His earlier performance of two wins and a second, this season went unnoticed as she was offered a liberal 7 to 1 in the betting. Jumping out from outermost draw in this five horse field, Imran took Come Together to the front in a blistering pace never to be bothered by the other four. Red Fairy finished second ahead of Splendid Scot and Sound Of Nature.

The upper division of The P.V.G.Raju Memorial Cup turned out to be an interesting duel between the top two market fancies Golden Tricks and Concur With Honour. As the heads turned for home, both of them had the task of overtaking almost half a dozen runners in front. Concur With Honour took the initiative and went into the lead to be joined by Golden Tricks. Just as it looked like Golden Tricks would fly past, jockey Gnaneshwar lost his whip and that gave an opportunity for Concor With Honour to fight back, which he did gallantly. The two fought out with heads changing in every stride in the last 150meters and Golden Tricks had the nod at the wire. Lady In Style and Portfolio filled the frame. Montush was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race.

The Raja Saheb Of Challapalli Memorial Cup was won by Bernardo who justified the favouritism. Leading from the start Bernardo made every post a winning one in this eight furlong trip. Embattled brought out a challenged momentarily on the straight but couldn't match stride with the front runner and finished second. Ice Man who traveled at the wrong end for most part of the race covered places in the concluding stages to place third.

The S.N.Reddy Memorial Trophy was a close affair between Fly By Wire and Global Presence. Global Presence took over the running at 400 meters and was joined midway by Fly By Wire. It was an intense battle between these two in the last furlong with Christopher and Harish both not willing to give up. Fly By Wire managed to peg Global Presence by a neck at the finish. Bella Coola finished third.

The opening event of the day. The Nawab Sultan Ali Khan Memorial Cup was won by Dash of Class. Dash of Class had settled in fourth position in the 1600 meters trip till the bend with Ninja Power doing all the running ahead of Torrestrella and Ultra Violet Ray. Nearing the distance marker Gnaneshwar guided Dash of Class through the field to go clear and win. His stable mate Golden Sabot was in the last position till 400 meters gathered momentum towards the end to finish second. ahead of Ninja Power.

The concluding event was won by Dash of Class's full sister, Gables ( Young Senor – Classy Missy ). The L.D'Silva schooled Gables completed a hat trick this season having won his earlier two outings. After a head and head fight with the bottom weighted Madho in the last 100 meters Gables prevailed by a neck at the finish. Many Thanks finished third several lengths behind.
