Hyderabad. Sep 1, 2008

Monday's racing at Malakpet was very competitive with almost four races witnessing close finishes in a card of eight. Only two first favourites obliged, but none of the other winners were out of the blue. All the eight winners of the day had the form to go by having run suggestive races this season. Trainer L.D'Silva and Jockey J.H.Christopher scored a back to back double. Suraj Narredu and R.Umesh were the other professionals to add two to their kitty.

L D'Silva and J.H.Christopher  won the higher division of The C.R.Bhoopal Memorial Trophy which was the feature of Monday's racing at Hyderabad. The odds were clear indication of how clever Bookmakers are. Sound Of Nature and Coming Together were the favoured two at Even Money and 7 to 4 against respectively and the rest were over tens. Sound of Nature and Coming Together fought out the last 200 meters with the former holding the advantage throughout. Alcohology came from way behind to peg Venturous to finish third. Fabulous Crown led till the last 200 and faded out. This win enabled Leo / Chris combination to complete a back to back double having won on Gables at nourishing odds in the previous race. Gables was in a handy position in the early part of the race and unleashed a run through the field to go clear and won by a comfortable margin. Feudal Lords and Corps Command attracted all the attention in the betting, winding up as joint favourites. Feudal Lords never jumped out with the field to prove his worth. Man On Fire finished second pushing back Corps Command to third while Golden Sabot filled the frame.

In the opening race Olympic Kingdom who opened at Half Money drifted out to 6 to 4 while Ruben Stein garnered all the support closing at Evens. Ruben Stein who was in front on top of the straight suddenly shifted out under pressure and in the process bumped Olympic Kingdom. Jockey Chouhan astride Olympic Kingdom was not perturbed and led his mount to Victory. The incident didn't go unnoticed and Jockey N.M.Sequeira was slapped a fine of Rupees Two Thousand. Golden Flame who was at the tail end during the early part finished third.

Both the divisions of The Nellore Plate witnessed close finishes and won by horses whose odds were neglected in the betting. Cannon Eye ridden by D.Gnaneshwar won the lower division beating Bundle Of Roses on the post. The favourite Runway Model was shifting lanes on the straight and finished fourth while Jugnu traveled widest of all to take the third spot.

Apprentice  R.Umesh who was asked to replace medically unfit B.Mukesh came back with a smile, winning on his chance mount Mr.Chief. Mr.Chief who was on a start to finish mission had built up a useful lead on the straight and this helped him to a great extent in winning. Music Express  who was getting closer with every stride covered almost three lengths in the last 100 meters, but the winning post came to the rescue of Mr.Chief who ultimately held on by a neck. True Fashion who was finishing on took the third place.

The joy of R.Umesh multiplied when he won the concluding race, the second division of The Tanasha Plate, on Emerald Beauty thus completing ten winners and shedding 1.5 kilos of allowance. Emerald Beauty streaked into the lead from the start and managed to win from Change Of Loyalty and Debonaire who were both lethargic in their effort. Mystic Impact was withdrawn after he refused to move into the gates.  The first division was won by the favourite Green Vision. Suraj Narredu made his move on top of the straight and Green Vision responded well to stride clear. Money care appeared very late on the scene and occupied the second place. Sweety boy finished third and Million Deal who led from 1000 to 200 meters finished fourth. The Scot was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary Grounds.

The lower division of The C.R.Bhoopal Memorial Trophy was a close finish with the first five horses finding place in one frame. Suraj Narredu on Red Fairy went start to finish and just held on by a slender margin from Manush who unleashed a run on the outside and covered almost five lengths in the last 100 meters. Al Jadeed who wound up as the favourite was always in contention on the straight and finished a close third. Stronger handling by the rider may have seen a different result. Shikra lost considerable ground at the start and came from out of the blue to finish a close fifth.
