Bred at the Kunigal Stud Farm, Arabian Knight proved that he is a genuine stayer, when he won The President Of India Gold Cup – Grade I run over 2400 meters. This proud son of Brave Act – Arabian Rose put up a stupendous performance at Hyderabad on Wednesday winning this prestigious race in a new course record timing of 2 minutes 31.33 seconds. Trained by J.S. Dhariwal, Arabian Knight who is the property of Dr. & Mrs. Vijay Mallya representing The United Racing & Blood Stock Breeders Ltd., and Mr.Arjun Sajnani collected close to a whopping 15 lakhs as prize money. The 'Knight' had won The Stayers Cup in March this year on this very course and set a new course record in doing so.
He also won The St. Leger at Bangalore six weeks ago trouncing the opposition.
The Nizam's Gold Cup winner Orochi set the pace followed by Diabolical and Arabian Knight breathing fire in close third. The same order prevailed till the final bend with the favourite Alekona who was running off the pace in about eighth position till the 1000 meter marker began to make his move. As the field came into view on the long home stretch, Samuel Fargeat took Arabian Knight to the front in a
flurry and this 4 year old gelding responded gallantly to draw away by five lengths. Samuel rode with his head down throughout the straight and was peeping under his arms to see his challengers behind. Alekona, Diabolical and Classic Sky had to settle for minor placing in that order. Diabolical was reported to have bled through both the nostrils during the race. Maximise was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race. Azureus was ridden by Harish in place of C. Alford.
The Soli And Gool Poonawalla Memorial Gold Cup was the supporting event of the day and was won by Auxiliary. This was a chance mount for
Samuel Fargeat as C. Alford who was originally declared to ride could not fulfill his engagement. The D. Netto schooled filly seemed to have gained a lot of experience running behind Oasis Star, arguably the best filly in the country as of date, in The A.P. Governor's Cup.
As the field was dispatched all the nine runners were closely huddled till the bend. Rounding the bend Auxiliary shot into the lead and the favourite Champ Forever looked beaten at 400 meters when jockey
Prakash brought out the stick out on him. Flying Rudolph finished second ahead of Champ Forever.
It was a day of the second favourites with six of them winning as only one firm favourite obliged in a card of seven races. It started with the first race when jockey Harish astride Deshmukh trained Glaring
Godzilla won with a length to spare from Spy Mate and Birdie. These three fought out the last 100 meters with Birdie closest to the rails, Glaring Godzilla on the outside and Spy Mate in the centre and they were fighting abreast. There were two objections in this race, one by rider of Spy Mate placed second against the winner for shifting in whereby he had to check his stride and the other by the rider of Birdie placed third against Spy Mate place second for similar reasons. Both the objections were overruled and the order remained as declared by the judge. Buddy Brothers was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary grounds before the race.
Samuel Fargeat rode a peach of a race on Silver Rose in The K. Mahipathi Rao Memorial Cup. Second in demand in the betting, Silver Rose was raced in a handy third position behind Cannon Scot and
Favourable Terms till the final bend. On entering the home stretch Silver Rose shot into the lead and never was she in any kind of trouble. The favourite Ruben Stein when asked for an effort ran
wavewardly under pressure ending up as the runner up.
The Half-A-Crown Cup run over 2000 meters was a close finish with the first five fitting within two lengths. Vannen Berg lost about three lengths at the start and covered up places gradually to be in the
fighting line. Adorna was on a start to finish mission but succumbed to Vannen Berg by a neck. Canopus who was with the front group till the 800 meters fell back and came with a flourish towards the end to finish a close third.
The penultimate and the concluding races went to the stables of K. Satheesh. Jockey Y.S. Srinath steered Power Play to victory in The Poondla Venku Reddy Golconda Trophy thus completing a hat trick this season, having won both his earlier starts. Bernardo took the second spot while Alcohology came from a near impossible position to finish third ahead of Bella Coola. Girl Of Love was ridden by Samuel Fargeat in place of C. Alford.
Ice Candy was the only refreshing relief to the punters when she won as a firm favourite. Narwhal who tried to challenge Ice Candy on the straight gave up after Ice Candy strode clear. Shes Got The Look and Global Star came with long stretched runs to finish second and third respectively. Narwhal on whom the rider seemed to be tiring finished
fourth.
Samuel Fargeat was in superb form winning three races including The President Of India Gold Cup. Trainer K. Satheesh completed a back to back double.
