Nine races were advertised on Sunday, but only the first six of them run at Hyderabad and the last three races run at Pune under R.W.I.T.C. Rules of Racing. In plain words there were six races at Hyderabad and intervenue betting over three races of Pune. Two favourites, one second favourite and three rank outsiders claimed the honours at Hyderabad. Trainer K.V. Srinivas brought out two surprises from his stable and that resulted in the jackpot pool paying a handsome sum of over Rs.1.65 lakhs, with only three tickets nominating all the five winners.
The Police Cup was won by D. Netto trained Bold Blast. The race was run in a slow pace during the early part with Bold Blast hitting the front followed by Flying Rudolf, Turf Raider and Coral Gables. On entering the straight jockey Sequeira urged Bold Blast and the 4 year old responded well to go clear and win comfortably. The 8 year old Coral Gables who still has the zest for racing finished second.
The opening event of the day, The Scintillating Plate was won by Leo trained Canopus. Travelling from behind Canopus had finished a close third over 2000 meters in his last essay. Over the extended trip of 2200 meters Canopus chose to set his own pace. Cherokee Fighter who unleashed a run in the last 100 meters veered out in the concluding stages and lost out by a head. Golden Sabot finished third.
Star Composer scored an upset win over Vinaleo and Dancing Touch in a pulsating finish. Vinaleo was successfully warding off Dancing Touch's challenge in front of the Grand Stand when Star Composer who was loitering in the last position till almost the last 100 meters, came up like one processed, to the astonishment of everyone. The magic eye gave the verdict in favour of Star Composer with Vinaleo finishing second and Dancing Touch third.
Nano War justified the favouritism while winning The Red Surprise Cup. Positioning a handy third till the final bend, jockey Harish urged his mount to go to the front. Fearless Flame was the only one to give some sort of competition on the straight. Armstrong and Cannon Treasure filled the frame.
The well backed Champion Star had set upon a start to finish mission in The Venus De Milo Plate. The bottom weighted Amontillado sprang a surprise when he zipped past Champion Star to win easily in the end. This was the first of trainer Srinivas's double. Ninja Power finished second while Sweety Boy finished third ahead of Champion Star.
Taste of India had run listlessly in all his earlier three runs this season. Available at odds for the asking, Taste of India decided to show off his hidden talent winning The Tick Tock Plate. Quickly moving into a close third rounding the final bend the 5 year old gelding sped past the leaders to win with ease. Cannon Hunt slipped into second along the rails. Turning Point took the third spot ahead of Greatballofchina. Play it Smart was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds.
