What Ails Horses in Mumbai?
By Racing Correspondent

Mumbai. May 01, 2008

A few race-horses from Mumbai, stationed at the Mahalaxmi Race Course, are believed to have been suffering from a serious respiratory disorder. This ailment is caused by a bacterium that infects the area of the throat. In advanced stages, there occurs some oozing of pus in the throat area. It attacks the horse's lymphatic system. Although not life threatening, this is a dreaded infection as it is highly contagious. Right now, however, it is learnt that the disease is in preliminary stage.

More than a dozen horses are suspected to have been infected in Mumbai and are lodged in quarantine.

Taking prompt precautionary action, various turf clubs are planning to send their veterinary teams to monitor the situation in Mumbai.
