Hyderabad. July 24, 2008

After the midnight showers, the track condition at Hyderabad was reported to be Going Good. Thursday's races witnessed four 3-year olds advertising their potentials when they put up excellent performances. Light Brigade, Girl Of Love, Vijaysamrat and Reconnect are the four whose runs impressed most.

The S.S. Cardmaster Memorial Cup, run over 1,400 metres, saw Vijaysamrat and Reconnect fight it out till the Stewards Room. True Force jumped out smartly to lead till the last furlong. Vijaysamrat took over at 200 mts and simultaneously Reconnect also began to make his move. It was a well-fought battle till the wire with Vijaysamrat holding the edge throughout. It was only in the last 30 metres or so that Jockey Harish was not able to exercise control over Vijaysamrat as the gelding shifted out thereby hindering the run of Reconnect. The verdict was half a length but the manner in which these two youngsters ran this race, they should go miles from here.

Jockey A. Imran Khan of Reconnect officially raised an objection on Jockey Harish of Vijaysamrat for not maintaining a straight course in the last 30 metres, bumping his mount and taking him out when his horse was full of running. The Stewards, after viewing the race, overruled the objection and the placing were unaltered.

Light Brigade won the six furlongs race most impressively. Jockey Suraj Narredu took Light Brigade to the front as the gates opened and was never headed. Essence put up a challenge briefly on the top of the straight and Light Brigade had to be just niggled to quicken. The verdict was a length and three quarters but Light Brigade was on a tight rein as he passed the Grand Stand. Trainer K.S.V. Prasad Raju should be complimented in keeping this gelding in fine trim after his resolute victory at Bangalore. One Mission, Essence and La Lapitus filled the frame in that order. Hot Seat was stuck at the gates and did not gallop. Heydan was withdrawn before the race.

Royal Code was followed by Hardccore, Girl Of Love, Clever Ploy and Southern Spice till the final bend in The Division I of The Maltese Prince Plate. As the field straightened up, Clever Ploy began his challenge. Girl Of Love, who was running close to the rails in third position, was pulled out to make her bid and she literally flew away  to extend the margin of victory to nine lengths.

The opening race was a small field of five runners and witnessed spirited betting coming on three of them, Pacific Groove, Central Command and Dandiya, the latter winding up as the favourite. Central command led from the word ‘Go’ and won after toying with Sikander E Alam's brief challenge on the straight. Dandiya broke a blood vessel and never took part in the race after 800 metres.

Rank outsider Orange County found himself in the front as the gates opened and looked like he would kick on. It was only in the last 100 metres that Drum Dance, the second in demand in the betting ring who had covered places in the initial part of the race, began his challenge and was shaping like a winner when Gables manoeuvred his way through the front-runners and put his neck in front to win from Drum Dance. Orange County finished third. Amazing Conquest who finished fourth should be followed.

Arrow Of Light who had run well the previous week put up a good show as he led till the last 100 metres when Mission Chief ridden by Ch. K. Chary came up strongly to win. Lancashire finished third as Commander Moial, who warmed up late, finished fourth. By this win, the jockey-trainer combination of Ch. K. Chary and S.A. Shehzad Abbas completed a double.

The concluding race of the day saw Jockey Harish signing off with a treble again. Lucky Damsel jumped out well and settled back to run third as Ocean City, Common Lad and Target Time brought the field into view on the home stretch. Lucky Damsel took over the running midway up the straight and won well from Golden Sabot and Cherokee Fighter who could only fill the minor placing.

Jockey Harish scored a treble for the second consecutive day as Ch. K. Chary and trainers S.A. Shehzad Abbas and L.V.R. Deshmukh a double each.
