Wednesday's racing at Mysore witnessed outsiders winning most of the races held during the afternoon. The authorities had framed a small card of six races with The Indraprastha Cup occupying the pride of place as the feature event of the day. Bangalore-based Dare Don had accepted to run in this race, and was considered a safe bet, since the quality of the opposition was mediocre. Racegoers were disappointed to learn that Dare Don had been withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Thereafter, this event became an open affair with money flowing in the direction of Ponte Romano and Sensitive Prince. The supporters of these two fancied runners realized their folly when the two of them were found struggling in the early stages of this race. The speedy Sensitive Prince was unable to hit the front and was tired before they straightened for home. Ponte Romano was ridden hard to save place money. Easy Rider was an early leader and was passed by Heroism in the final furlong of this 1,400-metre trip. Jockey Tauseef was working hard on Assaye, and his horse was responding brilliantly to his urgings. Tejaswi trained Assaye, who was dead last at the turn, got a dream opening on the rails. He shot through and beat Heroism and Ponte Romano near the winning post.
Tejaswi and Tauseef had earlier scored with Hidden Pleasures in the lower division of the same race. In a breathtaking finish, four horses were locked together as the runners flashed past the winning post. Time is Life and Arkwright were in front and seemed to be pulling away from the pack. With less than 100 metres to go, Hidden Pleasures started to come through the rails, while Victory Queen began to gain ground on the wide outside. The digital camera declared Hidden Pleasures as the winner ahead of Arkwright, Time Is Life and Victory Queen. Less than half a length separated these four runners.
Another trainer-jockey combination to strike twice during the afternoon was Narayana Gowda and Vinod Shinde. Apprentice Shinde has been having a lean time in recent weeks and was quick to seize the opportunities. He started the day with a win astride Rain God. This recent demotee had run some suggestive races in the higher class and was backed to the exclusion of his rivals. Rain God was tucked into fourth place as Full Steele, Star Danzig and Wonder Splendour led the field into the straight. Rain God responded to the stick and got up in the last few strides to nail Full Steele at the post. Wellington came with a late run to finish a close third. The double was completed with Way To Wealth in the concluding race of the day. With most of the betting restricted to Pal Joey and Jericho, Way to Wealth was friendless at 8/1. Ambiens did the front-running and led from Pal Joey and Visonahld. Way To Wealth was travelling well in fourth place, and was waiting to pounce on the leaders. Shinde gave him a couple of cracks near the distance post and guided him to an easy victory ahead of Ambiens and a late finishing Jericho. Favourite Jericho was unlucky to get caught in a traffic problem at a very crucial stage of the race, and should be given another chance to redeem himself.
Rank outsider Mazeppa was fortunate to get up in the last stride and beat back the challenge from favourite Final Frontier in another mile event for horses in class III. Jockey Shafiq rode a very patient race on the winner, as he was content to stay in last position near the final bend. He crept on the wide outside and gained ground with each stride. Early leader Maratha Conqueror got tired and finished a tame third. Fancied Estrella and Ardmore burst their blood vessels in this race. Another one to win from behind was the Ranjeet-trained I Wanna Fly. Entrusted to apprentice Vijay, this mare came with giant strides and collared Haley's Comet with a measure of ease. Speedy Much More shot his bolt near the distance post and finished in the ruck, while Super Chieftain plodded on to be a faraway third.
