Hyderabad. Aug 4, 2008

It was a favourites day at Malakpet, Hyderabad, with six firm favourites and a well-supported second favourite romping home in a card of seven events on Tuesday. Trainers Netto and Prasad Raju and Jockey Suraj Narredu signed off with a double each.

Trainer Daniel Netto scored on Hyper Kinetic and Dorebella. Hyper Kinetic raced in third position within striking distance till the final bend as World Wide bowled along in front. As the field straightened up, the 10 to 3 on Hyper Kinetic moved effortlessly to claim the opening event. World Wide made good of his early lead to take the runner-up berth.

Before running in the second division of The Sunny Blossom Plate, Dorabella had two outings at Bangalore. This 3-year old bay filly's fourth to Set Alight in The Fillies Trial Stakes was one of them. Around 400 metres from home, it looked like Dorabella would trounce the opposition but Bourbon Star who had the benefit of a run this season fought on bravely. Dorabella ran green throughout the home stretch and won by a little over a length from Bourbon Star. After this preparatory run Dorabella will make her presence felt in the Classics at this centre. The early leader Birdie finished third.

Bella Coola, who was withdrawn on the opening day after failing to load, was again sent out as the market leader in The Democracy Plate. King Size took the initiative rounding the final bend and Jockey Imran Khan tried his best to hold on to the lead, but Suraj Narredu had by then began his challenge on Bella Coola and passed King Size 100 metres from the winning post. Navija took the third spot.

A quite gamble on Dancing Touch paid dividend in the second division of The Subramanya Bharati Plate. Standing Ovation, who had failed as a favourite last time out, was again sent out as a favourite. Opening at 10 to 6 on in the betting drifted out to 11 to 10 against, as the right money came on Dancing Touch who wound up at 9 to 4. Dancing Touch was full of running and was sighted a winner long way from home. Standing Ovation just managed to peg the long time leader Chamatkar to finish second. Green Haven was permitted to be withdrawn as the jockey was declared medically unfit to ride.

Trainer L. D'Silva deserves to be complimented for keeping Sparsh in pink of condition. Sparsh completed a hat-trick which includes his win at Bangalore and a resolute win on the opening day. On his present form, Sparsh was backed as certainity at 10 to 4 on and the only challenge in the betting ring came from Dash On Regardless at 7 to 2. Dash On Regardless finished second, and Chief De Mission third. Time On was slowly away.

Galloping Grocer, Change Of Loyalty and Millennium Queen were the favoured trio in The Warangal Plate run over 1,200 metres. The odds offered on these three kept fluctuating and finally closed 7 to 2 each. Jockey K. Anil tried start-to-finish tactics on Sugar Gold as Zagreb, Change of Loyalty, Millennium Queen and Ocean City started closing in. Around 300 metres from home, Millennium Queen was travelling the best and won from Sugar Gold who held on to be second as Change Of Loyalty took the third spot.

Holly Go Lightly, who was fresh from Bangalore, won the concluding event with ease. Allukkhas who tried to run away with the race found one better for a second time this season. Nandanvanaa came from nowhere to finish third by the shortest of margin to Allukkhas.

Meanwhile, Jockey K.Suresh who had a fall from Amazing Act on Sunday is reported to be in a critical condition. Let us as patrons of racing pray for his recovery.
