Bred at the Capricon Stud Farm Attractress won the 35th edition of The Deccan Bookmakers Fillies Trial Stakes on Sunday at Hyderabad. The recent crops from Capricorn Stud farm are making their presence felt at the Indian Classic circuits. The race looked open with seven good type of fillies lined up. Even in the betting ring Queens Guest, Reflection Of Gold and Violet Honey almost shared the favouritism with Attractress quoted at sixes. As the race started Inspiring Trust hit the front with Queens Guest, Violet Honey, Dorabella, Reflection Of Gold, Cassandra and Attractress in tow and the same order continued till the final bend. On the straight Inspiring Trust didn't show signs of tiring and continued to stride out well in front. Queens Guest was the first to offer a challenge but succumbed under pressure and Violet Honey who was making her bid along the rails may need more distance.
Jockey Harish had very intelligently made his run on Attractress through the field and when shown daylight she responded gallantly to Pass Inspiring Trust in front of the Grand Stand. Trainer L.V.R. Deshmukh who has been winning some good races here
should be commended for bringing Attractress to this level.
The Raja R.J.K.Ranga Rao Memorial Cup was bagged by Leo D'Silva trained La Lapitus setting a new course record timing of 2 minutes 21.50 seconds over the 2200 meters trip. Realtor, Power Ranger, Vijayam, La Lapitus and Chief De Mission was the order right from the time the gates opened till the field passed the 600 meters. La Lapitus who had won over a mile in her previous was the first to take the initiative and went ahead never to be caught by the others.
The Original Vel Mrs. Radha Balasubraminium Gold Cup was another supporting event of the day. The gruelling trip of 2400 meters attracted only five runners and they were within three lengths at the finish. Time On set the pace and kept going approaching the distance post and must have been relieved when the stable mate Shakin Stevens who was the firm favourite went past him. Blast In Class covered a lot of ground in the concluding stages to pip Time On at the post for second post. Commander Moil who finished fourth was struggling to find a clear passage on the straight in this small field.
Dark Stranger and Lucky Damsel were the market leaders in The Adilabad Plate, both fluctuating between 2 to 1 and 5 to 2 in the betting. Lucky Damsel was the first to rush to the front as the field straightened up and was quickly joined by Dark Stranger. Although Dark Stranger took some time to pass, it was evident that he would win convincingly. Vannen Berg and Cannon Treasure were tardy at the start but finished second and fourth respectively and were full of running.
The two divisions of The Excaliburs Star Plate were bagged by piping hot favourites. The lower division was won by Deshmukh trained Conceptual. Green Haven slipped into the front on the straight and held forte till the last 200 meters where it became evident that Conceptual would pass him without a fuss. Green Haven who finished second a length and three quarters behind was not disgraced in defeat as the rest of the field were almost a distance behind.
The upper division was won by Blaack Mischief who stretched out beautifully on the straight to win by nine lengths from Classic Dancer. Phar Lap led the field till the bend with Blaack Mischief positioned in fifth position within comfortable distance. As Blaack Mischief broke away from the field Classic dancer, Standing Ovation and Phar Lap fought out for the minor placing and finished in that order. The top weighted Royal Embassy with D. Singh astride took The Star Haven Cup drawing away from the field. Backed as a certainty Royal Embassy won as he wanted. Sir Almas who was running almost last at the bend came up with a flourish and finished second.
See You There who failed as a favourite in his previous outing made amends in the concluding race. With Jockey K.P.G. Appu assigned to ride, See You There was sent out at 10 to 7 on. Appu who rode in copy book fashion didn't give any anxious moments to his supporters.
Hunting Boy slipped in along the rails to snatch the second place from Blend Of Beauty as Many Thanks came with a long stretched run to fill the frame. Sprint Champ was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary Grounds.
The day witnessed the return of the favourites, six firm favourites and a well supported one romping home out of eight races. Trainer L.V.R. Deshmukh returned home with two winners which included the plum of the day. M. Sathyanarayan and K.P.G. Appu also bagged a double each.
