Dancing Dynamite (Glory Of Dancer – Double Wish) stretched his winning streak to four in a row alright, but he had to contest beyond the track the wrest the issue from Antonios, the original winner. That The General Rajendrasinhji Trophy (Grade 3) would be a thriller, was always on the cards, but that the suspense would spill beyond the race track was something the race goers were not expecting. That's exactly how the race unfolded.
Go Guzzi Go set a scorching pace initially and maintained the momentum all through. Following close behind was Bourbon Queen, Gentle Knight and Antonios, a length away was Dancing Dynamite with Tsesebe not taking prominent part in the race due to a stirrup malfunction leaving jockey Rajendra engaged in making all efforts to sustain himself on the horse.
As the race further heated up, Go Guzzi Go could not keep it going and soon it was Antonios who burst on the scene. Giving chase was Bourbon Queen. Dancing Dynamite, at this crucial stage got pocketed and was desperately looking for an opening. after some poking and prodding he managed to wriggle out. By then, Antonios was a couple of lengths in front, but Dancing Dynamite started to bridge the gap with a powerful finishing effort. However, Antonios failed to keep a straight course and began to shift outward just when Dancing Dynamite was mounting a serious challenge. The favourite came up to the haunches of Antonios but could not really open full throttle as Antonios was right in front and denying Appu an all out effort in the final stages of the race.
.
Antonios did get to the wire first, sparing a good length and three quarters to Dancing Dynamite, but Appu duly lodged an objection against the initial winner. Hectic arguments and cross arguments ensued in the Stewards room. After elaborate scrutiny of evidence, viewing the action-in-question from various angles, the stewards also took credence to the observation made by the stipes and ruled that Antonios was guilty of shifting out and interfering with the run of Dancing Dynamite. The objection was consequently upheld, the order of placing reversed and the race was awarded to Dancing Dynamite.
Dancing Dynamite has now pocketed four races over varying distances from six on his debut to 8 furlongs for The General Rajendrasinhji Trophy. The way he traveled and the way he is shaping up he has shown signs of getting the derby distance as well. Is he the one who is gearing up to measure up to the likes of Set Alight and Autonomy in the near future? Well, the reputation of the first named is indeed towering and Autonomy is the only one so far being touted as the filly's main rival hence the speculation. Nevertheless, don't you agree that Dancing Dynamite isn't exactly dwarfed by the two? Certainly a point to ponder!
The Akkasaheb Maharaj Trophy, the other major event of the day was claimed by Lago Medio and to the delight of the trainer Faisal Abbas fought with stable mate Escravos giving the trainer the first two placing in this prestigious race. The favourite Cairndhu was reported to have bled during the race as such finished in the rut after leading for a brief while. Pampered Princess showed up briefly but the lead was changing drastically in the straight. Rejuvenite took over then Escravos and finally Lago Medio tore through between them and gobbled up the race. The fourth place charge comprised of a bunch of horses finishing together. Enaksi did well to rise from the dead to edge out Aurelian, Elmwood and Dancing Diva in a blanket finish.
The Pelican Trophy went to Yankee Lane but not without a fight. Rule of Law ruled till the final couple of strides before being collared by the favourite in a close finish. Rule Of Law took charge soon on start and built up a sizeable lead entering the straight and shaped like a winner nearing the distance post. Yankee Lane who was chasing her all the time warmed up late and was getting closer with each stride. Appu got the best out of Yankee Lane in the last 100 meters which was enough to peg back Rule of Law in the last two strides. The rest did little to comment. Fighting Fantasy was disappointing and ended a tame third.
Acceptance, in the first race was very heavily backed close to the race time and the odds dwindled alarmingly from a healthy 4/1 to 16/10 at race time. However, the Club's vet noticed that the mare had a sore fore and duly declared her unfit to race. Sudden Impact made the running and guided the field homewards and surrendered. Jolteon soon took charge and fought all the way before giving in to Lady Trooper close home. Lady Trooper who was well in touch with the leaders, right from start came alive in the final furlong to win well. However, it was Arabian Guest who drew my attention coming in from a long way back to end a good third. The 6 yr old gelding was last till the turn wherefrom he moved to the wide outside certainly losing some ground in the process and finished on well to touch the tail of the fighting duo ahead at the finish. Keep an eye on this Kasbekar gelding next time out over a similar distance.
Binee found the right rhythm today to earn her winning bracket which was long overdue. Golden Orra continued to disappoint and led only till the turn. Mountain King moved ahead to lead the pack homewards in the straight. Binee was well off the pace and started to improve at the turn. Regina who was tracking Binee also made progress nearing the turn but could not keep pace as Binee mounted a strong challenge and drew away in the last 100. Regina, however, managed to pip Mountain King to end runner up.
Ishtar was the bolt from the blue. Star Impact was the piping hot favourite but was never in command. Ishtar who ran in the front took over readily in the straight and successfully kept the threatening Born Special at bay. Star Impact was right behind them but failed to quicken and could only watch the duo go futher away. Sharp Memory moved under the whip to finish in the frame alongside the favourite. Born Special showed signs of a better performance in the near future.
The last race was taken to be a two horse race as the markets indicated a straight fight between Pomme De Terre and Swept Away. A few stray bets went on Everybody Counts but the major wager came on the former pair. Swept Away got straight down to business and led the field with Pomme De Terre keeping close tabs on the leader. Mazan was right up with them till into the straight keeping company with Everybody Counts. Swept Away accelerated tremendously leaving nothing to chance and drew away from Pomme De Terre who was squarely beaten. Everybody Counts as an effortless third and Adam's Pleasure put in a good late effort to find a place in the judge's frame.
Trainer Mansoor Shah and jockey KPG Appu combined well to score a double on Yankee Lane and Dancing Dynamite for owner VN Babu to enjoy a lucrative day.
