Youngsters bounce back to rule the turf

Delhi. April 15, 2008

Taking a lesson from the counterparts, who faltered 24 hours ago, the favourites took a firm control on the day as six youngsters wrote a story of success. Trainer Magan Singh, jockeys Rajinder Saini and R Parmod shared a brace each. Interstingly, five fancied runers were below evens barring Silver Zara.

Among the much obliged horse was She's Sexy, who won the Hyderabad Race Club Silver Vase at the mercy of stable cum ownermate Soul Satisfaction. Finding it dificult to take a clear advantage in the last furlong, jockey Syed Afsar Shah left no stone unturned to earn laurel whereas the dubious handling of the chamipon jockey Rajinder on the latter made his task easy. A verdict of mere head is all about.

However, It was Degas, who tried hard by putting everything into the last sprint to spoil  their celebrations but failed narrowly further by a short-head.

A relaxation in weight by more than 5 kilos than the last outing helped Soul Satisfaction, the 1000 Guineas winner, to put up a stout hearted show over the distance which has never been her access.  Degas looked to have been a matter of past. The speedy customer, who holds the track record of sprinters, has now started showing the staying capabilty.  If he retains the speed in the next season then again the others would be finiding dificult to match strides with him.

A three-year-old speedy customer Futurecalculations completed here encore in the opener under the guidance of Rajinder Saini, who later, also guided the fortune of Mumbai runner Sudarshan Chakram. Interstingly, the duo made it in start to finish attempt.Black Chetak, who is termed as the speediest horse stationed at this centre, also followed the suit of earlier winners in a smart time.

Though he survided narrowly, but one should also consider the weight he carried - 61.5 kilos. Silver Girl, who was running after a long lay off, gave a bold challange to Black Chetak before being settleddown to be runner-up.  The mare had earlier developed a blood vessel problem.

Yet another juvenile after Futurecalculations and Black Chetak, Kerry Blue finally managed to shed his maiden status over the distance which is quite suitable his strides - seven furlongs.  Jannie Jamun, Crystal Pistol and Vaga Bond, who finished second, third and fourth resectively would be in different shape in the next season. Wild Wind also bears watching.  A mumbai runner, Silver Zara scripted a facile victory over the eight furlongs where she has never gone. Earlier she had lost a race narrowly to Invinsible Force. The horses who tasted victory - Futurecalculations, Sudarshan Chakram, Black Chetak, Kerry Blue and Silver Zara should maintain their form.
