The concluding day’s races of the Bangalore Summer Season have been postponed to be held on Wednesday, August 8 due to unsuitable underfoot conditions. It rained hard during the races yesterday (Thursday) during the long drawn 11-event card. With the maintenance of the track gone from bad to worse and the drainage system at the 700 metres marker continuing to be appalling and primitive, the authorities had to postpone the races following the reservations expressed by the professionals.

Rains have been an integral part of racing during the Summer Season but unfortunately the authorities have not learnt their lessons to cope with the eventuality. The drainage system continues to be bad, with no effort made to improve it. The problem is known before hand but no attempt is made to solve it because the priorities of the authorities seem to be different. The Clerk of the Course has to answer a lot and initiate urgent measures to see that one spell of rain does not affect the course of racing. There are ways to prevent flooding if only there is will.
