Mark Gallagher to ride in the Epsom Derby

May 29,
2007

J
ockey Mark Gallagher has been granted a three month extension to his visiting jockey's licence by the Singapore Turf Club and will remain in Singapore until the end of August.

Gallagher has so far won 5 races and placed 16 times from 78 rides in the three months he has ridden in Singapore. Despite limited opportunities, the former Indian based Irishman has impressed local race goers at the Kranji track.

On Singapore racing's biggest weekend, the SIA Cup weekend, Gallagher scored a double through Starry Fire and Casmodado. His earlier three wins all came astride CHYNA PEARL who is trained by Englishman David Hill, another professional who plied his trade in India.

Gallagher has now been given the opportunity of a lifetime by Singapore based owner K. Tork who has chosen the 38 year old to partner his horse Leander, trained by Brett Johnson, in the Vodafone Epsom Derby on June 2.
