Ten Sports to show English Classics

May 03, 2007

Ten Sports has signed a new multi year deal with the BBC to bring the best of English horse racing to the channel. The new agreement begins with the 199th running of the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday and the 1,000 Guineas a day later. It also includes the high spots of the English racing year such as Royal Ascot, the Derby, the King George VI and the Oaks. Ten Sports has also extended its agreement for the best racing from Dubai including the Dubai World Cup as it commits to showing the best horse races in the world.

The race to win the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday could look more like a cavalry charge after 30 horses were declared for the first English horse racing Classic of the season, which will be shown live on Ten Sports. The 2,000 Guineas favourite Teofilo will be ridden by his big-race jockey Kevin Manning. 3 year old Teofilo, last year's champion juvenile, is unbeaten and is the latest to bear the burden of being a supposed wonder horse. For Teofilo, the son of Galileo, Saturday is the first step on a three-stop road to attempt to win the Triple Crown - the Guineas, the Derby and the St Leger - in the hoofprints of the legend Nijinsky, 37 years ago. Teofilo's closest market rival is the Craven Stakes winner Adagio trained by Michael Stoute.

On Sunday the channel will broadcast live coverage of the 1,000 Guineas from the same course, and the favourite from the 25 fillies for Sunday's 194th running is Teofilo's stablemate from the Jim Bolger yard, Finsceal Beo. She has been a leading fancy since winning the group one Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp last October and is now favourite.

Ten Sports broadcasts all the top races from England, Dubai and India as well as the weekly magazine show "Winning Post" throughout the year.
