Referred
to often as the 'pride of India' in the TV broadcast and a 'gorgeous' horse,
Mystical raced his heart out in the Dubai Duty Free (Gr.1) at Nad Al Sheba
racecourse in Dubai on Saturday. Martin Dwyer had Mystical in the top five
early and in striking range. As the field turned for home and when the time
came to get busy, Martin asked Mystical for an effort. There was no
response. The Indian star began a hasty retreat and ended up beating only
two rivals in the 16-horse field. It is interesting to note that the two
horses, Lava Man and Miesque's Approval, who finished behind Mystical are
noted American Grade 1 winners who have together earned in excess of seven
million dollars.
Going to Dubai and winning two races in international competition is an
achievement that should make Mystical's connections proud. Mystical has put
India on the world racing map. What I am looking forward to is Southern
Empire's entry into world racing. Dr MAM has said in categorical terms,
"Southern Empire is better than Mystical, much better."
