Australian
jockey Aaron Spiteri has been retained by URBB Ltd to ride for Dr Mallya,
during the Bangalore Summer Season 2007.
Aaron Spiteri, 29, began his career as a professional jockey in 1996 and
was Leading Apprentice in the 1997/98 season in Melbourne. He concluded
his apprenticeship in 1999 and the highlight of this period was
finishing 2nd in the Caulfield Cup, the richest 12 Furlong Handicap in
the world on Lisa's Game.
In 2000-01 Aaron rode a number of group and listed winners, the most
memorable being the Goodwood Handicap, Gr.1 in South Australia. 2003 saw
Aaron take up a contract to ride in Macau for 3 months where he rode 8
winners including the winner of the Gr.2 Spring Sprint.
On his return to Australia, he received a great opportunity to ride for
Lindsay Park, one of the most powerful stables in Australia and rode 127
winners for principal trainer Tony McEvoy in an 18 month period. Tony
McEvoy and Aaron Spiteri were Australia’s Leading Trainer/Jockey
combination in the 2003/04 season and Aaron was the Leading Jockey for
2-year olds that season.
From July 2005 till March 2007 Aaron took up a contract with the
Singapore Turf Club riding 67 winners including several group races
including the S$1.3 million Penang Gold Cup, Gr.1, twice and the Patrons
Bowl, Gr.1. 2006 was a watershed year in his career when he rode winners
of three Gr.1’s and several feature races in the Singapore calendar
besides finishing in the top 5 in the premiership.
Aaron has ridden about 700 winners in his career to date including 28
Group and Listed races.
