MYSTICAL CREATES HISTORY

Feb 16, 2007

After being settled at the rear in the early stages, the five-year old gelding, with 58 kilos on his back, stormed into the lead with 300 metres left to run and stretched well for a fluent victory in the Property Weekly Cup, the eighth race of yesterday’s card at the Nad Al Sheba track. The race was a 1600-metre turf event for horses rated between 90-105 and was worth US$ 66,000 to the winner. The Irish bred Hallhoo was second one and a half lengths behind with Yarqus third.

Ryan Moore rode Mystical who was trained by Ganapathy and carried the colours of the Poonawalla family.

Mystical, who became the first Indian horse
to win a race in Dubai

Mystical was the star of his generation winning 14 of his 17 starts including the Indian Turf Invitation Cup (Gr.1), Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1) and Indian St.Leger (Gr.1). He was sent out to Dubai last December and was scheduled to make his first appearance there on 25th January during the Asian Racing Conference. However a minor injury forced a change in plans and the rest as they say is history.
