Addressing the members of the association, Dr Mallya outlined the
progress made by the association in the past one-year and expressed
great satisfaction that the finances of the association continued to be
very healthy despite generous sponsorship of some important races at
Bangalore and Mysore.
``The Association had made earnest effort to safeguard the interest of
the racehorse owner and the bargaining power with the powers-that-be has
ensured healthy stakes for races in Bangalore. There are several areas
which need improvement but he added that it was sometimes frustrating to
deal with people who govern the sport, without any stake in it.’’
Dr Mallya said that nine years ago, he initiate court proceedings to
bring back race horse owners as Stewards of the Bangalore Turf Club.
Unfortunately, after prolonged delay, the case was lost. However, it is
gratifying to note that the revision petition has been accepted by the
High Court, he added.
Mr Ashok Raghavan, Secretary, gave a detailed presentation of the annual
report of the association and outlined the various activities of the
Association of the year 2005-06. He gave a brief of the increase in
Stake money and incentives the owners received due to the persuasive
efforts of the association. During the year 2005-06, the efforts made by
the association to reduce the number of races going void had been
successful and this summer season, the total numbers of races originally
envisaged will all be gone through.
The Meeting also discussed at length the need for a substantial
improvement to the stable hygiene and track conditions at the Bangalore
Turf Club and Mysore Race Club respectively and it was resolved to take
up this matter emergently and effectively with the respective race
clubs.
