“I want to make RWITC one of the best clubs of the world. And the club needs a change in the management for that to happen. So, vote for a change. I am here to ask you for a mandate for myself and my friends (Arun Nanda, Ravi Ghai, Sunil Jhangiani, Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, Shyam Ruia and Vijay Shirke) and if given an opportunity, I promise you that will not let you down,” declared Dr. Vijay Mallya in a short speech delivered at an exclusive party hosted for the member’s of the club on Friday night at the Poona Club.

Setting the tone for the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Managing Committee elections, which will be held in late December, Dr.Mallya addressed the audience which heard him with rapt attention: “I hate the word ‘groupism’. Groupism has been the bane of this turf club and it needs to be ended. I offer my candidature along with my allies and everybody will vouch that I deliver whatever promises I make.”

Dr.Mallya’s words seemed to strike the right chord with those present as there was a spontaneous wave of applause during the UB Group chief’s brief speech that lasted barely ten minutes.

Earlier, VJ Sophia entertained the crowd with her remix numbers and be it the young or the old, they were literally dancing to her tune. It was over six years since the ‘King of Good Times’ had last hosted a party for the club members and needless to say that they were left mesmerised by an enchanting night of celebrations.
