One of the leading racehorse owners in the Western India circuit, Sajjan Kumar Jajodia died of heart attack last Friday. The 72-year old Jajodia had been a racehorse owner for over 50 years. Jajodia owned about 50 horses in training both at Mumbai and in Bangalore with trainer S Padmanabhan. Jajodia also dabbled in breeding and mostly raced horses bred by him. He had about 50 horses in breeding at various stud farms in India.

Last year, Jajodia acquired about nine mares in foal to fashionable stallions at the Goff’s Sale through trainer Padmanabhan who has also been dabbling in bloodstock of late. Floral Hall, the dam of Not For Me, who won a Listed race at York on Wednesday, is currently in India and was among the nine mares bought last year. Floral Hall has foaled a filly by King Charlemagne and is currently located at Sohna Stud Farm near Delhi.

Jajodia was a regular presence at the Mumbai racecourse and in recent years, he had made an earnest attempt to enhance the quality of horses that he owned by going in for better quality horses. That was the reason for the up gradation of his stock, by acquiring top quality mares from abroad. Jajodia’s young son Aniruddh said that he would continue his father’s legacy.
