Mallya, Raghavan re-elected to KROA

Dr Vijay Mallya and Ashok Raghavan were re-elected as President and Secretary of the Karnataka Race Horse Association at the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Association on July 13.


Addressing the members of the association, Dr Mallya outlined the progress made by the association in the past one-year and expressed great satisfaction that the finances of the association continued to be very healthy despite generous sponsorship of some important races at Bangalore and Mysore. ``The Association had made earnest effort to safeguard the interest of the racehorse owner and the bargaining power with the powers-that-be has ensured healthy stakes for races in Bangalore. There are several areas which need improvement but he added that it was sometimes frustrating to deal with people who govern the sport, without any stake in it.’’

Dr Mallya said that nine years ago, he initiate court proceedings to bring back race horse owners as Stewards of the Bangalore Turf Club. Unfortunately, after prolonged delay, the case was lost. However, it is gratifying to note that the revision petition has been accepted by the High Court, he added.

Mr Ashok Raghavan, Secretary, gave a detailed presentation of the annual report of the association and outlined the various activities of the Association of the year 2005-06. He gave a brief of the increase in Stake money and incentives the owners received due to the persuasive efforts of the association. During the year 2005-06, the efforts made by the association to reduce the number of races going void had been successful and this summer season, the total numbers of races originally envisaged will all be gone through.

The Meeting also discussed at length the need for a substantial improvement to the stable hygiene and track conditions at the Bangalore Turf Club and Mysore Race Club respectively and it was resolved to take up this matter emergently and effectively with the respective race clubs.

The Members were also briefed about the status on the Agreement with the labour union and other related Issues, and the status of the legal cases filed by the Association.

The following were elected to the Managing Committee for the year 2006-07.

Dr.Vijay Mallya, Messrs.K.R.Swamy and.Ashok Raghavan were unanimously re-elected to the post of President, Vice-President and Honorary Secretary respectively. Mr.A.V.Jayaprakash was unanimously elected as the Honorary Treasurer of the Association.

Elections were held for the post of seven Managing Committee Members and the following persons emerged successful:
