Champion jockey B. Prakash has broken three ribs and is likely to be out of action for four weeks. Prakash suffered this injury when his mount Fine Choice fell in the December Plate at the Bangalore races yesterday.
Frenchman David Badel has been given the ride on Moon Emperor in this afternoon's Calcutta 2000 Guineas.
With their second jockey, Mark Gallagher, also ruled out till later this month with a broken foot, the MAM Ramaswamy stable is short on experienced riders especially with the Indian 1000 and 2000 Guineas looming. It is likely that Dr. Ramaswamy will engage a top foreign rider till Gallagher and Prakash return to the saddle.
