MAM set to enter parliament

Racehorse owner and breeder Dr. MAM Ramaswamy, is all set to enter Parliament as a member of the Upper House, the Rajya Sabha.

In a move that surprised many, Dr. Ramaswamy was named as the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate from Karnataka by party president H.D. Deve Gowda. 

An electoral college comprising members of the state legislative assembly elects Rajya Sabha MP's and Dr. Ramaswamy's election on June 28 is certain as the Janata Dal (S) has 58 members in the Legislative Assembly, 13 more than is required to ensure their candidates victory. 

Dr. Ramaswamy will be the second Rajya Sabha MP with deep connections to racing. A couple of years earlier, Dr. Vijay Mallya was successful in his election to the Rajya Sabha.
