The Pune season restarts on the 15th of July and the big news is that the stake money has nearly doubled. This welcome announcement will prove to be a necessary injection that the Sport of kings desperately needed.
While the raise has not been without controversy it must be a great relief to all people genuinely concerned with the welfare of the sport. Recently, the R.W.I.T.C. passed a development plan at an EGM and promptly received a 10 crore non-refundable deposit. If the development plan is
completed, it will undoubtedly be the greatest and most significantly positive event in the history of Indian horse racing. International standard facilities for horses, syces, members and professionals are only a few of the direct benefits that would be derived from this project. The indirect benefits to the racing industry, the government, and other related industries could eventually go into 1000s of crores. Unfortunately, the project has met with litigation from a dissenting group. From the facts, it is obvious that this is a great opportunity for horse racing in India and rather than working against the project, the dissenters would serve the sport better if they tried to help see it through.
Out of the legal battlefield and onto the turf, the Pune season will see some of India's top thoroughbreds do battle for the rich prizes. Some of the horses to follow are:
