Jockey Aslam Kader, who was riding the favourite Karishma in the first race today, suffered a bad fall about a furlong away from home and appears to be seriously injured in the accident.

Karishma appeared to have bled through her nostrils when the field entered the home straight with Aslam seemingly aware that something is amiss with his mount. Aslam was seen trying to ease up Karishma and control her towards the end of the five-furlong journey. Unfortunately for Aslam, Karishma came a cropper and the jockey was hurled headlong into the ground. Aslam appeared to have been deep distress after he was shifted to the clinic situated in the club’s premises.

The club’s physician provided Aslam with first aid and then decided to shift him to the Jehangir Nursing Home for further treatment. Further news of Aslam's condition is awaited and we will keep our readers informed immediately on receipt of the status of the injuries suffered by the rider.

A series of tests were carried out later and it is reported that Aslam has suffered a fracture in the upper part of the spine. Sources at the hospital, however, say that he is out of danger and his condition was stable. According to the neuro-surgeon attending him at the nursing home, Aslam will be out of action for at least 2-3 months.
